Looming Challenges to Gainesville Historic Neighborhoods, including “Inclusionary Zoning”

Gainesville City Commissioner Gail Johnson, former University of Virginia School of Architecture Dean Kim Tanzer, and former University of Florida Associate Dean Peggy Carr, speak to ongoing challenges to Gainesville’s single-family residential neighborhoods at UPNA’s Annual Meeting (on Zoom), October 18, 2020.

Here is a link to the discussion.

UPNA Annual Meeting

The UPNA held it’s Annual Meeting Sunday October 18th 4:00 – 6:00 PM. This year Gainesville City Commissioner (At Large) Gail Johnson joined former UVA School of Architecture Dean and UF Faculty Senate Chair Kim Tanzer, FAIA and former UF School of Design, Construction and Planning Associate Dean Peggy Carr in an interactive discussion about threats to Gainesville single-family neighborhoods posed by the new Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) ordinance, the possible end of the “three unrelated persons” occupancy limit in rental housing, and City Commission plans to implement “inclusionary zoning”.  Commissioner Johnson also discussed her call for a moratorium on development in order to ensure equity.

The recorded discussions are in the next post.

Video of UPNA forum on candidates for Alachua Count School Board, District 4

“ZOOM-BOMBED!” Yes, UPNA’s Candidate Forum this past Wednesday night (July 22, 2020) was hacked, forcing us to deliver the promised recording in two segments in order to delete pornographic material. However, thanks to the patience and graciousness of the two candidates, Ms. Sande Calkins and Dr. Leanetta McNealy, we quickly regrouped and had another excellent discussion about issues facing Alachua County Public Schools in the COVID-19 era. We also apologize to Ms. Calkins for the video problems she experienced, although her audio was clear.  Here are the links to Part 1, followed by Part 2:
